Job Summary & Mission

As a Shift Lead at BOPOMOFO CAFE, you’re ready to take the next step in leadership, supporting the Assistant Store Manager by ensuring the team delivers an exceptional customer experience every shift. In this add-on role to your current responsibilities, you’ll oversee essential operations, delegate breaks, conduct compliance checks, and provide ongoing coaching and support to your team. Your role will embody BOPOMOFO CAFE’s guiding principles, fostering a positive and productive work environment while maintaining a high standard of service and efficiency.

Disclaimer for New Restaurant/Café Opening (NRO): Please note that this Shift Leader position is for an upcoming BOPOMOFO CAFE location. As such, the expectations for this role deviate from our standard shift leader responsibilities to accommodate the unique needs of opening a new establishment. The selected candidate will be required to undergo full barista training to ensure a deep understanding of our operations, enabling them to support our baristas and lead their team more effectively.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perpetuates BOPOMOFO CAFE’s core values and mission and develops relationships with shift team members.

  • Provide guidance and support to team members by assigning tasks, overseeing the team’s workflow, and ensuring roles are clearly delegated to maintain efficiency throughout the shift.

  • Actively coach and encourage team members, offering constructive feedback to reinforce strengths, support growth, and cultivate a collaborative atmosphere.

  • Delegate and coordinate team breaks to ensure smooth operations without impacting customer service, maintaining balance and coverage across all roles.

  • Conduct regular compliance checks on team members to ensure adherence to operational policies, food safety protocols, and cleanliness standards.

  • Assist in the food expo area to ensure all orders are executed with accuracy, speed, and standard of presentation, elevating the quality of the guest experience.

  • Monitor daily store operations, identify potential issues, and proactively address them to uphold efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.

  • Model exceptional customer service by engaging with guests and handling any customer issues with professionalism, ensuring each interaction reflects our dedication to quality.

  • Report shift-related feedback to the Assistant Store Manager, including team performance, operational challenges, and any opportunities for improvement.


Summary of Experience 

Prep cook or food handling experience in a Food & Beverage Retail environment - 0-1 Year

Required Knowledge & Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency of BOPOMOFO CAFE’s Prep Cook or Barista role.

  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and guide team members, setting a positive example and creating a supportive work environment.

  • Proficiency in delegating tasks and managing time effectively to keep the team on track while ensuring seamless operations.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively support and coach team members, build rapport, and maintain a positive team dynamic.

  • Proven commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience, with the ability to handle guest inquiries and concerns professionally and proactively.

  • Ability to assess operational needs in real-time, troubleshoot effectively, and remain adaptable in a dynamic work environment.

  • Solid understanding of BOPOMOFO CAFE’s menu offerings, recipes, and quality standards, ensuring accurate guidance to the team and support in the food expo area.

  • Commitment to compliance with operational policies and procedures, conducting thorough compliance checks to maintain safety and quality standards.

  • Ability to work well within a team environment, communicating effectively to ensure smooth and coordinated operations.
